Why Most Africans Are Just Like the Monkeys in the Supposed 5 Monkeys & Banana Experiment

Monkey Experiement
Monkey Experiement

It is obvious that today’s people have become the product of weird dogmatic practices without pausing for a moment to scrutinize why things are the way they are. We strictly follow and adhere to principles pertaining to traditions, religion, politics and other systems blindly because “that is the norm.”

Although somewhat contested, it is believed that Stephenson, G. R. in 1967 contacted an experiment to point out the flaw of this human’s disposition.

Five monkeys were put in a room and in the middle of the room was a ladder, leading to a bunch of bananas hanging from a hook on the ceiling.

Each time a monkey tried to climb the ladder; all the monkeys were sprayed with iced water, which made them miserable.

Soon enough, whenever a monkey attempted to climb the ladder, all of the monkeys, not wanting to be sprayed, set upon and beat him up. Soon, none of the five monkeys ever attempted to climb the ladder.

One of the original monkeys was removed, and a new monkey was put in the room. Seeing the bananas and the ladder, he wondered why none of the other monkeys were doing the obvious. But undaunted, he immediately began to climb the ladder.

All the other monkeys jumped on him and beat the hell out of him. He had no idea why he was being beaten. However, he no longer attempted to climb the ladder.

A second original monkey was removed and replaced. The newcomer again attempted to climb the ladder, but all the other monkeys hammered the crap out of him—including the previous new monkey, who had no idea why they were even beating the new monkey.

One by one, all the original monkeys were replaced. Five new monkeys were now in the room. None of them had been sprayed by iced water before yet none of them attempted to climb the ladder. All of them will enthusiastically beat up any new monkey who tried, without having any idea why—this became how things were done there.

And that is how traditions, religions and systems get established and followed the supposed experiment explained.

To some extent I understand why the editor of this blog-GhanaCelebrities.Com, Chris-Vincent Agyapong Febiri is always subjecting some weird conduct exhibited by people in Africa pertaining to this theme to ridicule.

Is it prudent on your part to belong to any political party, religious party or have extreme chauvinism to traditional taboos and superstition without getting your understanding of it or subjecting it to intensive scrutiny? (Read the story above about the woman who is reported to have turned into a bird in Nigeria)

Africa is blessed with lots of resources but plagued with lots of problems ranging from poverty to pestilence because we behave like the monkeys in the above theory. Let’s wake up and exploit the power of our brains to help us move forward in every facet of our lives.

  1. This experiment is exactly how Africans behave. It is true to the fact that, If you question anything about religion, they will call you an anti-Christ. If you question some of our archaic traditions, they will say you’re a sellout. And If you dare initiate fresh political ideology, they will say you’re too-known. Africans are afraid of change. That’s why we will always live in abject poverty.

  3. Funny, GC you post this, I’ve always asked myself, why GH-ians still dose things the same way? Nothing have changed. Take cooking for example, they are still using charcoal!! Or like how Black people make hair extensions. Something very common among blacks, yet the way to make it is well developed within the whites!!!! If you ask you parents or grandparents, “that’s how it is done”.

  5. If Africans continue to believe that a bird falls from a tree and turns into a woman, what does that tell you about them-pure monkeys. I bet none of the people saw the bird turning into woman someone started a useless rumour on seeing the woman on the floor and other gathered in believe. No one will question anything because that is how things are done in Afrca
