A Paedophile Gay Doctor or a Very Wayward Son?

Published by
Doctor Sulley Ali-Gabass

Who has not at this point heard about Doctor Sulley Ali-Gabass the infamous doctor who is now simply known as the Gay Doctor in Ghana? I mean the married medical doctor who sodomized a 16 year old boy who has been named as Aziz for the purpose of keeping his identity protected.

That story has been made the central headlines over and over again for the past few days. Two days ago I heard the doctor had been arrested and refused bail while being held in custody till investigations are concluded.

In all this, Doctor Gabass has had his face splashed all over the news in every medium. The young man however does not even have his real name out there.

Many are the sympathizers of Doctor Gabass who is a senior medical doctor at Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Takoradi. He is supposed to be a very good doctor for that matter as many people have spoken out about how well he has attended to them in the past. I actually read one woman say he saved her life once in the middle of the night when she was bleeding to death. But hey, isn’t that a doctors job?

People insist we should forgive him because he has accepted his wrongs and openly asked to be forgiven by his family and the Muslim community. Many people from the Muslim community have also called for the Sharia law to take action as he is a leading Muslim figure who has committed a crime under Ghana law and against God.

Now my take? First of all, call me old fashioned but I didn’t even know anal intercourse could cause such deep cuts and so much damage that you will have to undergo surgery. It is indeed disturbing for me to hear all this.

But what manner of teenager follows an unknown doctor into a place private enough to have anal seks?

There are so many teenagers out there who are very wayward and go chasing grown people themselves because they are either looking for an easy sugar daddy or sugar mummy.

Also the character of this young man is even more questionable as he insists he was raped five times by the doctor and the doctor insists it was only once last year. How does someone even rape you five times? Wouldn’t you stop going to see them after the first or second or third? What did you enjoy taking from them that kept you going back?

Let me again mention that this young man is HIV positive while the doctor insists he did not infect him. We cannot be sure because the doctor has not been made to undergo a test yet. But he insists he did not infect the boy.

Among all this, he bought a lot of goodies for the boy which the boy is still using. Several people have also claimed the boy tried blackmailing the doctor before finally telling on him.

Now on the doctor’s part, this is clearly not just a gay man, he is a gay man who likes children. Children he possibly forces himself upon which amounts to rape. He is a rapist and perhaps a paedophile and that is illegal anywhere on this planet.

Should the child be exempted from all blame? I do not think so but I think he has suffered already from having to undergo surgery due to his activities and from contracting a deadly disease.

This young man has not been able to tell his father upon all what is going on so can you imagine the shock his father will receive when he finds out his son is the boy at the centre of all this controversy?

I do not feel sorry for Doctor Gabass but I feel sorry for his wife and children. The ridicule and shame will last with them. Yet I am tempted to ask, are we dealing with a paedophile rapist or a wayward young man or both? Perhaps it is time for Ghana to take a good look at delicate sexual orientations and put down specific stands.
