Black Stars Qualify for African Nations Cup 2015 With Comfortable 3-1 Win Over Togo

A Wakaso Mubarak 40 yard screamer was the highlight as the Black Stars made short work of a Emmanuel Adebayor led Hawks in the final qualifying game in Tamale.

The on-loan Celtic midfielder struck a thunderbolt to give the Stars a 2-goal lead. Abdul Majeed Warris had earlier headed the Stars in front with his first goal in months for club and country, captain Agyeman Badu sealed the win with a superb solo effort in the second half.

Jonathan Ayittey headed the Hawks to within a goal’s deficit just after half time, but Agyeman Badu’s effort put the result beyond the reach of the Hawk’s who’s frustrating afternoon was brilliantly epitomised by the forlorn figure skipper Adebayor cut upfront.

After losing Asamoah Gyan and Kwadwo Asamoah, stand in skipper Andre Ayew joined the injury list but the Stars showed little rust in a brilliant opening half.

Several chances were wasted before Warris’ opener, heading in Wakaso’s cross from the right.

Wakaso himself helped himself some minutes later, hitting a screamer from well over 40 yards that left everyone in the stadium breathless with excitement.

Togo briefly threatened parity with their goal after the interval, but the Stars were barely threatened in a surprisingly good showing for a team that has looked listless for much of this qualifying campaign.

The result sends Ghana to her 20th African Cup, finishing top of the group with 11 points, ahead of Guinea with 10 who picked up the other spot from Group E.
