This and several similar recent cases just go to show that even the most advanced system can have loopholes; but we just take it because it is the best available and it works more often than it flops.
You would remember the recent case of Kwame Ajamu, who was cleared of all charges after almost 30 years in prison on a murder conviction. He was convicted alongside two others, his brother Wiley Bridgeman, and Ricky Jackson.
Ricky now 59 spent 39 years in jail, first on the murder charge and then a parole violation. His 39 years is the longest anyone has been in prison and then exonerated in the US, according to Yahoo.
An Ohio court ordered that Jackson be awarded $1m compensation from the state of Ohio, as compensation for the time spent behind bars.
At this time it’s not known what, if anything, the other two would get for their troubles; but for now Jackson has one million reasons to smile at night.
It doesn’t atone much for destroying his life, but he makes something from the ordeal at least.
