Nigerian Billionaire-Aliko Dangote Plans To Buy Arsenal FC One Day

Most of us who love football and see our club owners taking one terrible decision after another often wish we could cobble enough cash together to buy the team and run it as it ought to be run. If you’re Aliko Dangote and you’re worth $15bn, it’s more than just a dream.

The Nigerian, Africa’s richest man, has revealed he still has ambitions about buying the English club one day. He already tried once, in 2010, but that deal did not materialise. He told Bloomberg that he plans on another bid.

“I still hope, one day at the right price, that I’ll buy the team.

I might buy it, not at a ridiculous price but a price that the owners won’t want to resist. I know my strategy.”

Arsenal is currently in the hands of Stan Kroenke and Alisher Usmanov. Arsene Wenger has been in the charge of the team for close to two decades, in which time they’ve won too few trophies for a club of Arsenal’s stature.

The billionaire though, said he’s busy with many side projects now. Once done, he’ll explore the possibility of a sale again.

“We have $16 billion-worth of investments in the next few years,” he said. “Right now I want to take my own business to a certain level. Once I finish on that trajectory, then maybe (an offer will follow)”

If that day ever comes, Dangote would be the first African owner of a major world football superpower.
