There are very few hip hop artistes who get to the top of the list. Because aside your music you need to be an astute businessman to send your earnings into the level required to get to the top.

So very often you find the same names inhabiting this list. And so it was, as Forbes released their list of Hip Hop’s five wealthiest artistes for the year.

Dre made a windfall when he sold Beats to ‘Apple’, but somehow, he failed to wrestle the title from the king. Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is that man, worth approximately $735m. Everyone knows Diddy is a whack rapper, but his numerous business ventures put him at the top.

Sean has interests in a clothing line, Sean John and Enyce, alkaline water brand Aquahydrate, new tequila DeLeon, and a TV network known as Revolt.

Dre comes in at second, worth $700m after the $500m he earned from that Apple deal.

Jay_Z, 50 Cent, and Birdman, round out the top five.
