Those at the top always have a way to win even if you are right and you have a genuine case. I am surprised that it took them so long to actually bring us this—but I am not shocked that it has happened, someone of us knew it was coming…
After several failed attempts by Yvonne Nelson and others to secure an appropriate venue for their #DumsorMustStop vigil and following a petition by Ga Traditional Council that the vigil will violate the ban on noise making and drumming, the Greater Accra Regional Police Command has SUSPENDED the permit they first granted for the vigil to go ahead.
That is a shocking u-turn but this is Ghana we are talking about—everything is possible so don’t be that surprised. You cannot go against the current and those in power because you will always loose the fight.
The best is to sit down and be molested, tormented and abused, If you can, run out of the country but to attempt to jump as though you have a say in how you are treated by those in power is pretty a waste of time…
Now, where are those of us shouting #DumsorMustStop? It seems we have, the #DumsorVigilHasBeenStopped!
It looks like Yvonne Nelson and the citizens of Ghana have lost the battle to President Mahama and those in charge, even before the war started.
And did you hear that government intends to regulate internet (usage) in Ghana, especially social media? Don’t be shocked if we wake up in an African version of North Korea…

The police made a hige mistake by not checking if Yvonne had proper permission to use the venues she indicated. Instead of checking with property owners, they rather spent time on photoshoots for Instagram and granted her permission to go ahead. Now that the venue authorities indicated they do not want her there, the police have to save their face by withdrawing the permission granted before they also look as confused as Yvonne. I don’t blame the police, if Yvonne had been more patient in thinking this demo through, organizing and planning appropriately, there would be no loop holes for anyone to stop her.
Poor planning is what caused this embarrassment. Nobody would have been able to deny her any venues or permit if she had done the right thing to begin with.
there is always another time. After Homowo, there willl be no reason not to grant the permit. I would advise Yvonne and her colleagues to stick to mobilizing and broadcasting their dissatisfaction through social media! It reaches far, the cheapest and most efficient medium.
could it simply be that yvonne and her team failed to adequately plan and organise this vigil? could it also be that since everything is highly politicised here, the university of ghana opted to stay out of the whole thing? and does it seem wise to start a vigil at ‘on the run’ lighting candles and whatnot when there is a filling station on the premises? i don’t know if it’s still there though, the filling station. however, i don’t think her being denied to continue with this vigil is as a result of saboteurs in higher positions. i think she got caught up with the moment and rushed into it, the timing though is horrible. there are 9 other regions though and for me to be wholly convinced that this is a sabotage will be when she is denied the right to demonstrate in all regions. it’s a good initiative but a tad bit pretentious me as well.
I WNT BE SURPRISED MAHAMA WILL WIN AGAIN NEXT YEAR DESPITE HIS NUMEROUS SHORTFALLS TO GHANAIANS.
THATS GH FOR YOU, THE MOST AFFECTED PEOPLE WHO HAVE NOTHING AND CNT HAVE THIER VOICES AND GRIEVANCES HEARD WILL ALWAYS VOTE FOR THE PARTY IN POWER.

Ghana y3 k) ye kye paa….the last I heard at an environmental summit the state is considering taking in use coal energy to supply power….1800 here we come…in sure we will go backwards to the extent that we will start using horse carriage as transportation eventually…

i agree Sasha but even in the towns u suggested to yvonne, she still needs to understand that she MUST search and find the owners of whichever venue she wants to use In advance and SHE MUST PUT ALL PERMISSION AND CORRESPONDENCE IN WRITING.
Sorry Yvonne but your legal team are not very sharp. The moment you realized this issue had turned political, you should have throughly covered your a$$e$ by making sure all paperwork was in order. Nobody can blame your poor preparation on Mahama. You are entirely to blame for this “pre mature ejaculation”. Clearly you had no idea what you were getting yourself into. Going head on with a ruling govt requires tact and intelligence. Now they are looking into ur taxes!!! One small error can land you in jail by law!!!!How could you allow yourself to be humiliated like this Yvonne?
Even if you decide to go into the sea for this demo and you don’t seek permission from the appropriate quarters, trust me the same police you had your photoshoots with will hunt you down and embarrass you again.
Yvonne did not handle this whole thing wisely at all and am very disappointed. I now believe majority of her intention was to help her own popularity. Too many class 1 mistakes for something so serious.
STOP LEAVING LOOPHOLES FOR HUMILIATION. Ah why?????
