GC Was Damn RIGHT | ECG Confirms They Have Disconnected 41 Properties At Red Row Estate for Illegal Connection & Non Payment of Bills Including that of Yvonne Nelson

Yvonne Nelson

Of course as Ghanaians, our sense of judgement is clouded by absurdity and affiliation—and I will continue to repeat this until we decided to employ critical thinking when an issue crops up.

Over the weekend, GhanaCelebrities.Com broke the news that,  the apartment of Yvonne Nelson at the Redrow Developments Limited’s estate at the East Legon Hills in Accra has been disconnected by ECG for running illegal power connections and non payment of bills together with others.

The important of this report is not just the 41 estate house which were disconnected for non-payment of bills and illegal connections but also, Yvonne Nelson together with the CEO of the same estate were key players of the recent #DumsorMustStop Vigil which was staged in Ghana—-as a protest against the power outages.

Beyond the illegality of this action, how can someone living in an apartment under illegal connection or non-payment of bills and another who is the CEO of an estate company operating 41 houses under illegal connection/non payment of bills match against power outages—when one of the problems of the power outages is the fact that ECG is in debt, affecting its efficient operation?

A Ghanaian does not pay her bills or lives under illegal connection and another has 41 houses running on illegal connection and yet, same Ghanaians go out there to protest against a problem partly caused by their own illegalities? This is epic hypocrisy and the many of this is why our country is deeply in an apocalyptic state.

After our report following which our journalist who was investigating the issue further was arrested and detained, the CEO of Red Row Estate-Christopher Aryeetey issued a statement full of lies to cover up his illegality, saying, only 12 of their houses were disconnected and that did not include the apartment of Yvonne Nelson.

Red Row Statement

Today, ECG has confirmed to Graphic that, the above statement is a complete lie and in fact, they disconnected 41 properties at Redrow Developments Limited’s estate at the East Legon Hills in Accra last week for illegal connections and non-payment of bills.

Instead of many Ghanaians looking at our report deeper and come to terms with the fact that, if as a country we want to move forward—we ought to stop such shenanigans; pay our electricity bills and end illegal connections, they continue to defend the indefensible.

The electricity company of Ghana has been plunged into a huge debt owning to the fact many Ghanaians are not paying their bills and others running on illegal connections—yet the same Ghanaians expect to have reliable and efficient power supply.

It’s such dishonesty and the later attempt to cover up with lies and intimidation by the CEO of Red Row Estate-Christopher Aryeetey and Yvonne Nelson, also championed by millions of Ghanaians that have stalled our progress as a country. It’s just not our leaders, we are the true problems—and it starts with our thinking faculties.

With this confirmation, the social media argument will certainly not be it’s a lie—Yvonne Nelson’s power was not cut for illegal connections or non payment of bills again. It will be, she is not liable because it’s an estate.

Of course, only a Kangaroo will come to such a conclusion. If you live in an apartment with illegal connection or consuming electricity and not paying bills—it’s my mother who ought to be liable, right? Even if you are paying bills to an estate management company who is not giving it ECG, you are liable because the contract of electricity provision and consumption is with you and ECG. If you go for a middle man to handle your business (Agent), you are liable for the actions or omossions of this middle man.

The again, why didn’t Yvonne Nelson, the patriotic citizen now called Yaa Asantewaa report the illegal connections in thee estate to the ECG? Is this not a civic duty? And why did the estate issue that statement full of lies—a typical Ghanaian approach to the truth.

We will never move forward as a country unless we begin to buy into critical thinking!

I dedicate the below song to all of us…
