See the Letter: NPP Council of Elders Asks Afoko & Agyepong to Step Down

Kwabena Agyepong

The Council of Elders of the NPP, an opposition party in Ghana caged in its own internal fights and killings have requested that the General Secretary of the party-Kwabena Agyepong and the Chairman-Paul Afoko who have been indicted as those who masterminded the recent killing of the Upper East Regional Chairman-Adams Mahama, to step aside “pending the conclusion of investigation into the murder of the Upper East Regional Chairman of the Party.”

According to a letter dated 25th May, 2015, “The Council of Elders believes that on the basis of your commitment to the success of the party in the forthcoming national elections and of your sincerity in the promotion of the general welfare of the party and nation, you would respect both the spirit and letter of advice given.”

Before that, there were false reports that the General Secretary had resigned—and this was when a resignation letter bearing his ‘true’ signature made it into the media. He later came out to deny the resignation.

With this new request by the party’s council of elders, it will be interesting if indeed the two will resign—but it doesn’t seem like they are ready to step aside.

Currently, there are also talks of impeaching the General Secretary of the party-Kwabena Agyepong and the Chairman-Paul Afoko should they fail to step down…

The NPP which seems like the only viable opposition in Ghana is rapidly losing its stand as that party to hold the ruling party accountability, owning to its own internal unending problems.
