Government White Paper On Dzamefe Report: GFA And Nyantakyi To Be Investigated

Kwesi-Nyantakyi1

The government yesterday submitted its white paper on the findings of the Dzamefe Commission set up to investigate the world cup fiasco, and the biggest consequence is that an investigation is to be carried out into the Ghana Football Association and its president Kwesi Nyantakyi.

The investigations, in the form of forensic audit, would look at how Ghana incurred losses of $1.2m in the run up to the world cup in games involving Ghana and Togo, Cape Verde, and Nigeria.

The enquiry would also look into claims by GFA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi that the $350,000 earned by Ghana from its friendly with Japan was used to offset the losses incurred in the above stated matches.

The investigations will also involve how the GFA applied the FIFA World Cup preparation money of $1.5m and the $2m received from Ghana National Petroleum Authority (GNPC) before the World Cup.

The white paper further accepts the recommendation that the GFA be made to disclose details of their expenditure when organising friendly matches for the Black Stars.

People have always wished for more accountability in the operations of the FA, and if this investigation is carried out well we should have that. However, government must not gloss over the culpability of its own agents in the entire world cup fiasco that cost us so much money and brought us international embarrassment.
