You wouldn’t dare attempt to change the status-quo in a country like Ghana, where majority of the people are set in their ways—and when the road ahead seems to have no alternatives.
But somehow, someone at an Accra based PLUZZ 89.9 FM decided to challenge the Ghanaian radio tradition of the morning airwaves being saturated with Political Talk Shows—by pushing for an Entertainment Morning Show-AM PLUZZ.
Months after setting off, it seems the test flight will end soon with the owners of the radio station currently looking for buyers to purchase the entire radio station or interested person to buy the morning slot, currently being used for Entertainment, GhanaCelebrities.Com has learnt.
Hosted by Sammy Flex (real name Samuel Atuobi Baah), the Managing Editor of Flex newspaper, AM PLUZZ couldn’t challenge the long standing morning political talk show culture—and coupled with the fact that the whole radio station is limping, it’s plausible to say even if new owners step in, PLUZZ FM wouldn’t dare continue with the Entertainment morning show.
It’s pretty sad but it was expected to be difficult, breaking away from the weekday’s chaotic political talks has become impossible in Ghana—but then again, in most part of the world, such is the trend.
“The show couldn’t compete with the many political talk shows in Ghana and the radio station itself couldn’t stand out as expected. The radio industry in Accra is very saturated. That is why the station is up for sale. Not enough money is coming in to keep it going because of the way it’s structured,” said our source.
EIB Network could jump in and take over but they seem to already have a lot on their hands.
