How to AGE Gracefully…Don’t Say Marriage Makes People Age Faster

Published by

Some people age very gracefully while the same cannot be said of others. Some people age fast (faster). Men (majority) age gracefully but unfortunately a few women age gracefully. Some women claim ‘marriage’ accelerate faster aging but I don’t want to believe marriage makes people age faster; it’s the person you choose to marry who can/may contribute to your early wrinkling.

If marriage ages faster, then the singles will forever be young, look fresher and always look their age. So, it’s very ambiguous to say ‘you look young because you don’t have man problems’.  Forget good genes. Sometimes our lifestyles, carrying unnecessary baggage, making a big deal out of nothing, ‘worthless hustles’, peace, state of mind (worry and anxiety, unhappiness), among others facilitates quicker aging.

If we’re in happy situations, unions, families etc, it reduces our stress levels drastically – and that is why we should make good choices and take beneficial decisions in every area of our life.

But the issue is who is supposed to make unions a happy one, your spouse? No, a happy marriage is a product of conscious effort by both spouses. The quantity of contribution may differ, but both parties must put in something and make a conscious effort to make it happy. How we react to our problems, situations and people’s actions matters a lot. We always have control over our actions, but certainly not over other people’s actions so we have to take charge of what we have control over.

Others say children make them age faster. Partly yes! Children these days know too much and it’s scary. They’re always three steps ahead of their parents. Children are more pliable and fully dependant on their parents from birth to the age of 10.

It’s easy to mould and shape them at that stage. Thereafter, there’s a paradigm shift; peer and other external influences gain more grounds in their life and that’s when the battles begin. They do dumb things; get rebellious but hopefully, the good foundation laid will put them back into the right lane.

Excessive worry and anxiety leads to geometric-aging. We’re humans and we naturally worry. We worry about finances, ‘unnecessary’ things and ‘other’ people. We sometimes even worry about other people’s problems as if we don’t have our own problems to contend with.

Worrying about money does/have not solved any financial problem – proper planning and constructive thinking do. When we prefer to worry rather than provide the solution that is within our means, we’re inviting ‘early old age’ into our lives. Some issues/situations sometimes get beyond our control but you do the best you can and leave the rest…. (To what some people will say – ‘leave it to God’).

Some battles are not worth fighting! Don’t cry wolf when none really exists!

Excessive use of makeup ages women very fast. The chemicals weaken the skin. So while we think we’re hiding the many holes and pigments on our face, we’re actually stressing the skin out. If stress can age a whole human being, how much less our faces? We can’t hide our age under layers of makeup – our fingers can always give us away (oops).

So marriage does not age anyone faster, our choices do. Without peace of mind, you’ll age beyond recognition – if you have peace of mind, you have it ALL.
