Everything is all but done for Asamoah Gyan to become a new player of Shanghai SIPG in China.
It’s generally accepted that he is moving there because of money. Because he was earning around $250,000 per week in the Emirates, and he’s now set to pocket around $350,000 per week in China.
But during a press conference last night before embarking for China, the Ghana captain denied he was making the move because of money. He said:
“The truth is I was looking for a new challenge with the Shanghai team and the money was not the primary motivation in my departure to the Chinese Super League.
“I hope that I am successful in the new challenge as we have already succeeded with Al Ain.
“It is my ambition to win the Chinese Super League with Shanghai so I will show my best there and in the end the football equivalent of best exercised.”
So he is leaving a little known football nation for a lesser known football nation, and he’ll be earning more money, but he still does not want us thinking he is leaving because of money.
Do you believe him? We’d rather not. Maybe he’s leaving because he wants a new challenge like he said, maybe he’s leaving because of more money: or maybe his former employers in the Arab world who execute people for sodomy were not so happy he was chopping some girl’s backside down in Ghana?

Haha I think for baby jet he made the money choice way back,it’s nothing new. Shanghai SIPG isn’t as good as Al Ain was a top competitive club with laurels but SIPG isn’t anywhere near.Even Shanghai Shenhua or any top performing and competitive team would have been better like the one in Guangzhou who won the Asian cup,that will have been more competitive.Well I wouldn’t blame him too much he’s thinking about his life after football.His brother played here before but not with such figures baby jet is bringing home.
