The propensity of the Ghanaian mind to go towards the metaphysical as the first point of call when dealing with any issue is, frankly, a marvel to behold- with that kind of mindset anything is possible, and it’s a recipe for being exploited.

A township around Kumasi, known as Atonsu, is reportedly in a state of shock as this story hits their ears. Allegedly, a 35 year old woman, who has been married for the past twelve years and has three children with her 45 year old husband, has discovered that she had been married to a ghost all these years.

So how did they deduce this fascinating theory of a 12 year ghost marriage? Did the man’s family come to tell them he had died 13 years prior? Did they exhume his rotten corpse? Any verifiable means of supporting this fantastical tale? Of course not! That is too complicated for the Ghanaian mind! Who needs all this scientific poppycock when we have our infallible pastors?

Because that is all they needed to get the entire township in a furore. According to The Chronicle, the woman woke up one day and was unable to find her husband of the past 12 years anywhere. So she went to “Royal Chapel International at Abuakwa in the Atwima Mponua District, where it emerged during the prayer session that Nana Agyei, who had left the house mysteriously, would not return again, because he was a ghost.

“According to the family spokesman (Stephen), they are terrified by the circumstances under which Nana Agyei left the house, and that they are yet to come to terms with the situation, as his in-law disappeared three clear days before the startling revelation was made in church.

“Stephen indicated his in-law (ghost) was a driver, but had a deep cut on one of his ribs, and looked so weak that he was not engaged in any activities.

“The spokesperson also said Nana Agyei refused to take the family to his home town, Assin Fosu, in the Central Region.

“He said the family is terrified to touch the “ghost’s” mobile phone he left behind in the family house.”
