Adultery, Fornication, Idolatry And More: The List Of ‘Crimes’ That The Old Testament Would Kill You For

A few weeks ago I tackled the myth that the laws and morality that shapes the world today comes from the Ten Commandments. I caught a lot of flak for that, though I suspect the response to this article would take an entirely different direction.

You see, I 100% guarantee that most of the responses against this article would be that these laws are in the Old Testament, so Christ came to change them with his laws of love. But nobody made that argument when I attacked the Ten Commandments, because it suits them to say that is the foundation of morality. But if the Ten Commandments, from the Old Testament, still stands, why should we be told that these barbaric laws, which I’ll get to in a bit, do not stand anymore? You cannot eat your cake and have it; or is it have your cake and eat it?

Anyway I believe an omnipotent, omniscient deity like Yahweh is described as, should have had a set of perfect laws from the beginning. Whilst there is no doubt Jesus was a big improvement over his daddy, if God is so darn perfect why must his son come and correct his crazy laws with better ones? Oh wait, Jesus is God, and God is Jesus. So who is the crazy one?

Leviticus, and Deuteronomy, which I maintain are the most repugnant books ever written, would dominate this list. Whilst Christians like us to believe that their way is the best way, if you take what the bible says on a lot of things, we would be living under a bronze age, barbaric code. It’s almost like those books were written for a bronze age, barbaric world.

So let’s all be glad that the Bible isn’t law, because if it were, one would be killed for…

Worshipping any God but Yahweh…

Deuteronomy 17:2-5 If there be found among you, within any of thy gates which the LORD thy God giveth thee, man or woman, that . . . hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded; . . .Then shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman, which have committed that wicked thing, unto thy gates, even that man or that woman, and shalt stone them with stones, till they die.

Disobedience (boys only)

Deuteronomy 21:18 If someone has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey his father and mother, who does not heed them when they discipline him, then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his town at the gate of that place. They shall say to the elders of his town, “This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a glutton and a drunkard.” Then all the men of the town shall stone him to death.

Premarital Sex (girls only)

Deuteronomy 22:20 . . .If, however, this charge is true, that evidence of the young woman’s virginity was not found, then they shall bring the young woman out to the entrance of her father’s house and the men of her town shall stone her to death

Witches

Exodus 22: 18 Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.

Blasphemers

Leviticus 24:16 And he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the Lord, shall be put to death.

Anyone Who Tries to Deconvert Yahweh Worshipers
Deuteronomy 12:6 If anyone secretly entices you — even if it is your brother, your father’s son or your mother’s son, or your own son or daughter, or the wife you embrace, or your most intimate friend — saying, “Let us go worship other gods,” . . . you shall surely kill them; your own hand shall be first against them to execute them.

Men who Lie With Men
Leviticus 20:13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

Adulterers

Leviticus 20: 10-12 And the man that committeth adultery with another man’s wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour’s wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death. And the man that lieth with his father’s wife hath uncovered his father’s nakedness: both of them shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. And if a man lie with his daughter in law, both of them shall surely be put to death: they have wrought confusion; their blood shall be upon them.

Loose Daughters of Clergy
Leviticus 21:9 And the daughter of any priest, if she profane herself by playing the whore, she profaneth her father: she shall be burnt with fire.

Girls who are Raped within the City Limits
Deuteronomy 22:23-25 If there is a girl who is a virgin engaged to a man, and another man finds her in the city and lies with her, then you shall bring them both out to the gate of that city and you shall stone them to death; the girl, because she did not cry out in the city . . . But if in the field the man finds the girl who is engaged, and the man forces her and lies with her, then only the man who lies with her shall die.

Cursing Parents
Leviticus 20:19 For every one that curseth his father or his mother shall be surely put to death: he hath cursed his father or his mother; his blood shall be upon him.
Working on the Sabbath

Exodus 31:15 Whosoever doeth any work in the Sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.

Look at these set of laws, which exist in a supposed, divinely inspired holy book. No book that contains these laws can be held up as an example of morality. I think it was Sam Harris who said that if the bible could be edited, he could make it better in five seconds, just take out these two barbaric books.

Like I often say, people are good in spite of their religion. Christians have become good at ignoring the bible, but when such barbaric books continue to hold the status they do (the Quran is scarcely better), anyone can interpret those laws as the will of god and carry out these barbaric acts. So you would have no leg to stand on to condemn someone who decides one day to stone his adulterous daughter to death, or kill a gay person, or burn a witch; because the bible clearly commands one to do so.

In closing, let’s all be glad the bible is not law, and that in spite of what Christians would have you believe, it did not inspire our morality. As for this piece, you can continue to live in denial and say these are in the Old Testament so they are invalid, or whatever gets your goat; or you can realise no loving deity would give such laws to begin with.

It’s entirely up to you, enter the daylight as a free thinker, or continue to lurk under the spell of bronze age peasants whose book contains less science than a third grader could tell you today.

  1. You are blasphemous Chris. Christians please stop coming here to read this gibberish, you are giving him a platform. If it were Islam, you’d be beheaded by now. God will send a calamity your way that your blasphemous write ups on this page will change. If you are not a Christian sure, shut up otherwise attack Islam also, stop being a coward. Write these things about Islam not Christianity but you dare not because you are very aware that if you did by now you will be killed. Chris be a man. God is about to show you that He is supreme. Stop with the blasphemy. Moses gave certain laws because the Israelites were thick and they like to see an action before they do, that’s why those laws were made for them that they will do the right thing. You know what Jesus said. Stop with the blasphemy, God still loves you, repent from your dead works and come to Christ where life is eternal.
