As part of the celebrations to mark International Youth Day last Wednesday, (August 12, 2015) the first gentleman of the land – President John Dramani Mahama – was interviewed on Uniiq FM.
Among the many issues that he touched on, he also talked about Ghana’s movie industry – naming his favorite actors. One prominent actor whose name was mentioned was John Dumelo.
This has not gone down well with actress Yvonne Nelson who’s name was not mentioned by the president.
According to her, the president should not have named only John Dumelo as his favorite actor, describing that as discriminatory.
In an interview on Joy TV’s ‘Let’s Talk Entertainment’ show, Yvonne said even though the president has his favorite actor, he shouldn’t have singled out John Dumelo.
Rather, he should have mentioned names such as Jackie Appiah, herself (Yvonne Nelson), Majid Michel, and the rest. This, according to her, will encourage them to do more in their best capacities to present Ghana very on the international map.
“John Dumelo supports him publicly so I mean it is cool. I believe he has got his favourite, everyone has their favourite and if you are in the entertainment industry and you are putting Ghana on the map, the president should love you because you are doing something for Ghana. We are all putting Ghana on the map so I believe the President should love all of us because we are all trying for Ghana.”
“For me, I want to see Ghana there and that’s a cool thing…the President should mention more names to encourage us.”
“He should mention names like Sarkodie, Jackie Appiah, Myself, Majid Michel, John Dumelo. These are people putting Ghana on the map. We need that kind of encouragement from our leaders,” she stressed.

I thought john was being harsh when he gave it to her on Twitter. but this statement shows pure jealousy and envy. She has proven Dumelo 100% right. you orchestrate a demonstration against JM’s govt. do you expect him to carry you on his head? You must be extremely daft to speak this way.
