5. Captain Planet and the Planeteers

Captain was arguably the most popular animated series in Ghana in early 90’s. Captain Planet and his Planeteers were tasked to protect the environment from disasters and destruction and ultimately to sensitize viewers to do likewise.

Gaia, the spirit of the planet chose five representatives from the five corners of the world to carry out this assignment. Kwame (from Africa-obviously Ghana), Wheeler (North Africa) , Linka (Soviet Union),  Gi (Asia) and Ma-Ti (South America).

Kwame, through his bullish demeanour is seen as the leader of the Planeteers, spearheads the summoning of the main hero of the sequel, Captain Planet to come and solve problems they cannot solve on their own.

Kwame will declare, “Let our powers combine” and with flashes of lightning and thunder, Captain Planet will announce his presence with his colouful costume ready to obey the instructions of the five teenagers.

Once Captain Planet finishes his job, he returns to the planet and restores the Planeteers powers with the popular catchphrase, “the power is yours!”

6. Things We Do For Love

Things we do for love certainly needs no introduction. It’s the series that launched the acting career of African megastars like Majid Michel, Jackie Appiah and Adjetey Annang.

Funny characters like Pusher, Killer and Cambonia helped add some humour to the 30 minute drama series that was primarily targeted at the youth. The show was meant to address issues relating to drugs, sex and relationship.

Things we do for love was really a big hit and still remains unforgettable.
