Sierra Leone Nearing Ebola Eradication As Last Infected Patient Is Discharged

After going a whole week without recording a new case (now two), Sierra Leone was already on its way towards ending this hellish epidemic. This new milestone is just one more process along the way towards freedom.

The last patient with the virus in the country has been treated and now discharged, reports the BBC.

35-year-old Adama Sankoh was discharged from a treatment centre in the northern Bombali district on Monday morning.

With two whole weeks without a new case, the country is quietly beginning to hope that they’re nearing the end. This is after 15 months and almost 4,000 people dead from the deadly epidemic.

There are still twenty eight people under quarantine to determine if they have the virus. A country can only be declared Ebola free six weeks after the last reported case.

The countdown is on.
