End of John Dumelo’s Career? | He Says Producers Have Stopped Using Him for Movies

John Dumelo as an actor has big dreams, including wanting to take over Hollywood—and even though he has not scored any Hollywood role yet, it seems his career is gradually ending.

Ghana’s movie industry has been fairly stagnant in the last few years—with the number of productions having drastically declined.

Nothing is really coming from the quarters of the big film-makers and the only rocking industry is Kumawood. Even at the end, the quantity has declined though the abysmal quality remains the same.

In a recent interview, John Dumelo who has been mini Globe trotting on the back that there is no work in Ghana for him said; “Well, I know, but the likes of Abdul Sallam Mumuni and other movie producers have refused to cast me in recent times for one reason or the other, I can’t really tell why”.

The truth is, it’s not just John Dumelo, big names like Jackie Appiah, Yvonne Nelson and Majid Michel are not scoring any Ghanaian movie roles. In fact, no movies are being made in Ghana so where are they going to get the roles?

This non forthcoming of movie roles has forced some of the actors and actresses into becoming producers—thereby, casting themselves in their own productions.

We’ve seen the likes of Nadia Buari, Yvonne Okoro, Juliet Ibrahim, Yvonne Nelson, Kafui Danku, Van Vicker and others towing this line…

Perhaps, it’s not John Dumelo’s career which is dead—it’s the Ghanaian movie industry which is long gone.

This is why we were excited over the weekend when Attah Abraham, 14, who was picked from the streets of Ghana during the shooting of Netflix’s soon to be released movie “Beasts of No Nation“, won the prestigious Marcello Mastroianni’s Best Young Actor award at the 2015 Venice Film Festival, the world’s oldest film festival.

    • I highly doubt politics has anything to do with it. As the writer stated, it could be because of the decline of the Ghana movie industry. FYI, Abdul Sallam Mumuni is not even a Ghanaian so politics is out of the question.

  1. These people need to realise that Twi movies are where they are now because the movies are relatable and easy to understand across Ghana. How many people really want to watch English movies like 4play or whatever soft porn movie that comes out..
