This is the kind of hogwash believing things without evidence can lead you to. As you can probably tell, these guys are not applying even an iota of rational thought to this, just good old superstition.

A group of Mormons known as ‘preppers’, in Salt Lake City,Utah, wholeheartedly believe the world is set to end this September. This has led to a situation where people are stocking up on food and other survival essentials.

According to the Huffington Post, they are stocking up on food-storage kits, flashlights, blankets, and tents. Salt Lake City houses the headquarters of Joseph Smith’s legacy, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

A shopkeeper in Utah tells the Post sales of freeze dried food has shot up by 500% in the past few months.

Those who believe in the impending apocalypse say the Jewish High Holy Days that began this week will trigger a financial crisis based on the United States’ “wickedness.” There is a ‘blood moon’(a kind of full moon) predicted for September 28, which they say is a sign of the world’s ending.

Most of their fears are based on “A Greater Tomorrow: My Journey Beyond the Veil” and “The Time Is Now.”, 2014 books written by Julie Rowe, a Mormon mother of three.

Rowe claimed in the books that she died and was shown visions of the past and the future. She predicted a near apocalypse and the ‘preppers’ are seizing on it even though the Mormon church has rejected Rowe’s claims.

Still, a significant number of people in Salt Lake City believe it and are getting ready for the end.

So stock up on your rations, mate, the apocalypse is nigh.
