Currently based in the United Kingdom, Ghana’s hit solo artistes-Reggie Zippy of ‘Adoma’ fame and Bollie, ‘You May Kiss the Bride’ who recently made a disappointing entry into ‘British Got Talent’ returned with a shocking but amazing performance on UK’ 2015 X-Factor—with all the judges calling them the best of the day.

Wearing red denim, the two Ghanaians who for sometime have been living in the United Kingdom in search for education, greener pastures and a musical breakthrough were dedicated enough not have made their failed ‘British Got Talent’ dream kill their aspiration—and their return on the packed X-Factor’s Week 4 audition was MEGA.

It was not only a musical extravaganza for the judges and the crowd, they indeed brought that Xtra Factor; their dance moves and pre-recorded footage were as funny as hell.

Having performed on some of the biggest stages in Ghana was definitely a bonus for their stage craft—they had no worries and knew exactly how to get the attention of the judges which worked perfectly.

Even if the judges did not like the style which was not the case, they couldn’t have frankly ignored the over 4000 people who jumped and shouted in excited; “Menn on Point” were really on point and they kept Ghana on their lips, making us all proud.

When they walked up the stage, they mentioned “world domination” as their aim—and from what we saw, they can surely dominate with this sort of Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” hit style of music. People want to be excited musically because the world has enough misery and “Menn on Point” brought that to the X-Factor stage.

After the panel of expert judges and audience were left fearing the worst, “Menn on Point” came to savage the situation with their own original song-Turn It Up—which intend turned the whole place up.

Rita Ora took centre stage from where she was seated and danced as much as she could—with Nick Grimshaw pushing himself up with excitement. After their incredible performance, Rita declared; ‘They’re actually so musically relevant right now.”

Fernandez-Versini and Simon Cowell were equally mesmerized; the energy “Menn On Point” brought in had not been felt in a long time.  Shocked Simon Cowell said ‘I love you two, you’re completely nuts.’ He added ‘I have a feeling that with you it’s always going to feel like a sunny day,’ and he pushed them to the next stage—perhaps after realizing that he made a mistake with the two on ‘British Got Talent.’

Reggie Zippy and Bolli’s X-factor’s performance has been lauded by UK’s media with the Standard adding them to their best performances in Episode 7, saying; “Don’t you just love it when someone comes onto the X Factor with an original song? What Menn On Point (aka friends Reggie and Bollie from Ghana) lacked in finesse, they made up for with boundless energy. Their Sean Paul-a-like track Turn It Up was hilariously OTT.”

UK’s Mirror also had this to say; “The Ghanaian duo Menn On Poinnt, who totally smashed their X Factor audition, actually got rejected from Britain’s Got Talent. The two became instant favourites with the X Factor judges and the audience when they performed their crazy-catchy own song Turn It Up with boundless energy that even provoked a smirk from Simon Cowell.”

UK’s Telegraph called them “The nuttiest act of the series so far” and said “Menn on Point, two friends from Ghana who’d recently moved to the UK, got a lot of airtime. Their audition, a song they’d written themselves called Turn It Up, was shouty, chaotic and quite frankly not actually very good. It seems unlikely that they would be very versatile too, when forced to sing other people’s songs – which is, after all, the whole point of the show. Never the less, the judges thought they were great.”

“Menn On Point” have not only sailed through to the next stage of the competition—they’ve scored some interesting international media attention, a clear indication that they are on the rise and also a confirmation that Ghana has great talents which mostly end up in a shelf full of cobwebs.

For the two, their international musical breakthrough is almost here—it may not be the X-Factor but this will nevertheless open up something for their creative talents.

Bolli and Reggie Zippy (Menn On Point) are currently our inspiration—riding with the message; don’t give up even after “British Got Talent” with the same Simon Cowell has rejected you.

  1. They nailed it. Bollie and I went to the same junior secondary and we use to call him cassava sticks because he had very skinny legs.
