Ghanaian actress-Yvonne Nelson has been receiving an avalanche of insults from certain intelligent fans on social media—while the credulous others fight back in relation to an image the actress shared on instagram and facebook.
It’s been a battle ground, particularly on her facebook with the smart ones saying, the actress is thick to even share the photo—since the sharing and her comment mean she believes in the stupidity of the story.
Those on the other side of the war are singing praises to God, just as the actress was doing, claiming the fact that there is some sort of separation between 2 oceans in the below photo is a confirmation that GOD IS GREAT—and no one can really explain it because it’s one of the mysterious works of God.
If the greatness of God lies in such wrongly positioned assumptions, then God is indeed great—because some people just fail to think or learn.
If anyone studied a bit of Chemistry or Physics in school, that person would easily know how come two water bodies can struggle to mix and therefore have such a thin line of separation. A clear example is when one is very dirty and the other is not. At their meeting point, there will be some sort of line.
Now the below picture of two oceans meeting but not mixing is said to have been captured by a photographer on an Alaskan Cruise which he shared on social media—and then it went viral.
For those who have failed to reason, this means something totally different to them when in fact, all it is that; these two water bodies were merging in the middle of the Gulf of Alaska with foam developing only at their junction.
This is because of melting glaciers composed of fresh water, and the ocean having a higher percentage of salt caused the two water bodies to have different densities—therefore more difficult to mix. Simply put, this is caused by difference in the salinity and densities of the meeting water bodies and it has nothing to do with any God or spirit (Maame water).
Is this difficult for anyone to understand? I guess YES—so they smoothly have to cover up their ignorance by invoking God.
That’s what the fight has been on facebook—with the actress’ pant catching fire in the middle of it.
At least, let’s be smart about things and place God on a higher pedestal because such silly claims do not help in anyway to authenticate God’s existence or greatness, it makes those on the other side smile…
I guess the reason why huge ships do not sink on the sea is because God is great too—and not that there is a variation in the density of the ship and that of the water.

Good for you for recognising and accepting the differences in the various faiths. You are an anomaly in the Ghanaian context. Are you Buddhist r Bahai. The path you’ve taken is laudable. But if you are Christian it means you are challenging some of the foundations of the Christian beliefs. Because the mere acknowledgement of other beliefs goes against the first Christian commandment. But like you said not everything is as cut and dry.
I am also certain, based on your education, that you do not support the Yvonne Nelson thesis on this phenomenon being an act of god. Which is the issue at stake. So in a sense you agree with Chris’ conclusion on the wrongness of YN’s assertions.
So that leads to the conclusion that your rage at Chris has nothing to do with this article and his refutation of YN’s claims but rather the fact that he was condescending toward YN and those who believe in her claim of god being responsible.
Faith is a personal choice and you shouldn’t be angry at those who decide to question yours. If your faith is strong then it is capable of defending itself and withstanding scrutiny. As an educated person you are aware bogus theories and their theorists are the only ones afraid of scrutiny. We shouldn’t be scared of scrutiny if out faith is true. We should also not allow out faith to be used to defend the indefensible. I know if your employer at the end of the pay cycle tells you he’s given your paycheque to your God you’ll completely call him up on his BS. We should do the same when someone tries to inject faith into things that have nothing to do with god.

First of all I am a god and mere mortals cannot educate me. Now that I have that out of the way, what does Jesus say about how to deal with those who have offended you? Schadenfreude is not Jesus’ way. Taking pleasure in other’s misfortunes is not something he’ll condone. Even I know that. And I am not a Christian.
Another thing you have to know is Chris writes a blog, and like most writers there is always controversy because you cannot satisfy everyone. You are bond to offend someone. That is the context you have to view this.
I don’t know what Chris’ relationship with Yvonne is but I think he was just pointing out some of the ridiculous things she does or says on the little “platform” she has. Knowing how uneducated our people are at home, wouldn’t it be better if she used the platform to enlighten them rather than post irrelevant stuff( trips, shoes, bags and clothes) that serves to only tease the illiterate Ghanaian mind but does nothing to raise them up from their ignorance? Wouldn’t the illiterate Ghanaian be proper served by telling them the truth about some of the wonders of nature without adding to their already congested superstitious minds?
