‘I was the First Person To Do The Moonwalk’ – Reggie Rockstone

Reggie Rockstone claims he performed the ‘moonwalk’ before Michael Jackson debuted it at Motown 25 in 1983.

‘I was the first person to do the moonwalk. Even before Michael Jackson first did it,” said Reggie, the self-proclaimed Hiplife Grandpa, in an interview with Bola Ray on Starr FM’s Starr Drive.

The 51-year-old rapper also revealed that Jeffery Daniels of Soul Train taught him the ‘moonwalk’, which was then known as ‘Backslide’.

“The reason that this happened was not because I was a genius. I used to watch Soul Train Jeffrey Daniel and that’s how I learnt it. I have video prove of Jeff Daniel giving me props on the dance. He came to Ghana and was at my club and he said so himself,” he said.

I don’t know why Reggie is bringing this out now. Perhaps he want the world to give him credit or recognize him as the person who first learn’t the moonwalk. But this is soooo cheap and needless.

First, Michael Jackson never claimed he invented the moonwalk. In his 1993 interview with Oprah, the late King of Pop gave credit to “black kids who live in the ghettos” as the originators of the iconic dance move.

“The moonwalk came from these beautiful black kids who live in the ghettos in the inner cities, who are brilliant,” Jackson said. “They just have that natural talent for dancing any of the new, hot dances. They come up with these dances. All I did was enhance the dance.”
