Another month, another class of workers embarking on strike due to terrible working conditions.

The sad thing is they threatened to go on strike during the height of the government-doctors impasse. They were assured of the salaries, which was the reason they went back to work- but months on they still haven’t seen a dime.

In such circumstances you can hardly begrudge their position.

Nurses at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital have announced they are on strike over salary arrears they are owed.

They wrote to the Ministry in July with their grievances, and subsequently met the employment minister who assured them that payment would commence on August.

After still not receiving any payment, they have decided to embark on this action. With the kind of work they do it’s amazing things would be allowed to progress to this level without any remedy.
