A fire outbreak during a concert for the Romanian metal band ‘Goodbye To Gravity’ led to the deaths of 27 people and 184 people picking up varying degrees of injuries.

The incident occurred in the capital Bucharest, sparking a day of mourning for such a huge, senseless disaster.

The fire, which is believed to have started as a firework display went wrong- caught a pillar covered with foam panels and the club’s roof, immediately engulfing the place. The immediacy of the outbreak led to a stampede for the only available exit.

146 of the injured remain in hospital, whilst a significant portion of the dead have yet to be identified.

The concert was taking place in the nightclub based in the basement of a Communist-era sport-shoe factory, with most of the victims being young adults; according to Reuters.

A young woman who was released from the hospital after minor injuries described the club bursting into flames.

“In five seconds the whole ceiling was all on fire. In the next three, we rushed to a single door,” she said.

According to other reports, two guitarists for the band are amongst the dead, whilst the lead singer is said to be in hospital with significant burns.
