Ghanaian singer and songwriter, Gladstorm Kwabena Akwaboah says he is capable of composing all genres of music- with the exception of dancehall.
Akwaboah, who is known for writing song lyrics for A-list Ghanaian musicians like Sarkodie, Efya, Becca and others; disclosed on Metro 90.5 FM’s Entertainment Extra with DJ. Murphy Lee that he is down with composing almost all genres of songs. Whether you’re talking about Gospel, Reggae, Afro-Pop or whatever, he is able to seamlessly write; but according to him, he is not into writing lyrics of dancehall tracks.
Being in the headlines recently for writing about 90% of the songs on Sarkodie’s ‘Mary’ album, Akwaboah stated that he is not worried about sacrificing his time and resources to compose songs for some individuals without collecting a penny from them.
“I am not worried for writing songs for free at the initial stage,” he said. “I wrote songs for some artistes without charging them—and that also helped me to showcase my writing talent and skills to the rest of the world,” he added.
Explaining why he is also performing some of the songs recently, Akwaboah stated that; “For me coming out with my own songs is to prove that apart from song writing, there’s also a singing part of me.”
According to him, the volunteerism chapter has been closed—and it is time for him to reap the fruits of his hard labor, so the free writing period is over now.
He hinted of his own upcoming album that he is working on and probably, it would be released latest by 2016—of which we cannot wait to hear the releasing date.
When asked if song writing is God-given talent or something that could be learned; Akwaboah explained, “It is a God-given talent, but one can learn and master it as a craft.
He added that, “one needs to do a lot of research if he/she has the talent, in order to get it into a great shape.”
He shld stick to his own style for the kind of genre he does
