The Brong Ahafo Regional Police Command has said it is poised to beef up security ahead of the Christmas festivities to curtail any criminal activities.

Brong Ahafo Regional Police Commander, DCOP Maxwell Atindane speaking at the launch of “Operation Father Christmas” on Friday, said the Police administration has foreseen criminal activities to be on the increase this season, which would undermine internal security.

Thus, the Regional Command will be on top of its game by providing adequate security both within towns and the highways, and will also provide security at churches, conventions, and other social gatherings; and also ensure Police visibility throughout the region.

“All the districts in the region will deploy adequate number of plain clothed personnel to socialize with the public to gather intelligence on criminal activities at hotels, lorry parks, churches, conventions, and all other social gatherings in order to prevent occurrence of crime and also help us to arrest perpetrators of crime.”

DCOP Maxwell Atindane said the Police will continue to provide armed escort to transport operators like GPRTU, Ghana Express and VIP buses from Sunyani to Accra as well as DKM buses from Sunyani to Bolgatanga and Nandom through Wa and other vulnerable targets–to confront highway robbers.

He added that personnel would be put on guard duties at some banks and other business concerns, vital installations including Bui Power Station and VVIP protection located within various districts.

“Police personnel would be deployed to mount snap checks on 51 Police check points and robbery prone areas in the region to search for narcotics and implements adapted to cause robbery and other violent crimes. We will strive to identify the perpetrators and the hideouts of robbery, dishonest receivers, narcotics dealers/traffickers as well as the users and conduct regular swoops on,” he said.

Touching on traffic management and accidents control, DCOP Atindane observed that; many personnel from the Motor Traffic and Transport Division (MTTD) will be deployed to the intersections, roundabouts and faulty traffic lights to ensure free flow of both vehicular and human traffic.

“In order to reduce road accidents, MTTD personnel will intensify checking of over-speeding on our highways and towns, drunk and fatigue driving, rickety and defective lights on vehicles, worn out tyres, reflectors, fire extinguishers, unlicensed drivers and continuously arrest drivers who abuse the use of the trade plates and to an extent use those vehicles to commit crimes.

He added that, “Police together with officials of the Regional Road Safety Commission, GPRTU, educate the public especially the drivers on law enforcement, road safety awareness on the road and highways before, during and after the festivities to ensure traffic and accident free Christmas and New Year Festivities.”
