Ebi Bright Will Be Going to Parliament on the Ticket of NDC? | The Politics of Indecency

Mostly, you are compelled to bow your head in shame when you listen to the political discussions we have in Ghana—they usual turn into insults and propaganda takes center stage.

Of course, you cannot really disconnect words from the integrity of the speaker—but somehow, most of our valued intellectuals descend into the gutters when the discourse is politics.

It’s either ‘Opana’ and his people are throwing the jabs or the other side, sometimes with the President himself playing a key role unleashing arsenals of insults hidden in a box of innuendos.

That’s the game the decent intellectuals play—and now, it seems we are even opening the door for the grossly indecent; people who seemingly do no take pride in their womanhood to become strong politicians.

Ebi Bright, a struggling Ghanaian actress is reported to have secured the mandate to contest in next year’s parliamentary elections, as NDC’s candidate for  Tema Central constituency (she stood unopposed)—and it seems, no one even bothered to put her up in Google, because the images that would come up is nothing of integrity.

When did Ebola strike at Tema Central constituency, wiping out all the decent people—such that, Ebi Bright who without fetter have paraded her nakedness all around, has obtained the mandate to contest for elections on the ticket of the ruling NDC as a parliamentary aspirant?

Has our politics gotten this low?

We definitely need a lot more women in parliament—but it does not mean this should cloud our judgement as to who is allowed to become a legislator in Ghana.

For me, some trees belong to the forest and they should remain there.

Last year, Maria Cozma, a magistrate from Moldovan caused a social media frenzy and was criticized globally when she posted a picture of herself posing in a bikini( below) on twitter. It seems, Ebi Bright will get Ghana a similar international backlash—provided she wins the seat.
