Ghanaian actress Sonia Ibrahim has disclosed that she would like to act in Kumawood movies.

Sonia who began her acting career in 2013 says she ventured into acting just for fun—but it’s now turning to ‘a big thing’.

According to her, people behind Akan movies hves branded it so well that she won’t hesitate to accept roles from producers—if they approach her with any deal.

“I did my first movie just for the fun of it but it turned out to be something else. It was in Number One Fan, produced by my sister Juliet.

“Things turned serious when I got nominations and even won Best Supporting Actress at Nollywood and Africa Film Critics Award (NAFCA) for the role I played.

“This made me realise that what I was doing for fun, people saw differently and actually enjoyed it. Although seeing my sister there inspires me, she was not the reason I became an actress,” she said in an interview.

“I like the Akan speaking movies and I think they are doing very well. Kumawood movies sell and if I get the chance, I will definitely act in them.’’

Sonia disclosed that she takes inspirations from Mercy Johnson—and her own sister, Juliet Ibrahim. She added that she also looks up to other actresses—which she did not named them in the interview.

“As far as Nollywood and Ghallywood are concerned, there are a lot of talented, beautiful and inspiring actors and I appreciate them a lot.

“But my favourite actress in Nollywood is Mercy Johnson and of course my sister, Juliet, is my pick when it comes to Ghana,” she said.
