Ghanaian actress Vicky Zugah saw the horrors of domestic abuse firsthand growing up, when her father abused her mother—and has thus now become something of a campaigner against physical abuse.

Vicky took her Instagram page on Monday to advice women who stay with and quietly suffer the actions of an abusive partner.

She posted a gory picture collage of women who have been abused by their partners with the hashtags; Am Against Abuse, Abuse Kills, No One Deserves It and We Can Stop It.

Vicky Zugah reiterated that physical abuse is an offense which is punishable by law—and that women should think twice if they notice that they are in danger.

In her own words: “Physical abuse in a relationship is a crime punishable by law..DON’T stay wit an abusive partner til they kill u..trying to mak peace wit somone who isn’t ready to mak peace givs them the power to be mor abusive..,show urself som luv and place a little bit of value on urself by walking out as soon as u start seeing signs while u stil hav life..people who luv u wil never abuse u,know this and stop mistakin jealousy and abuse for love. #AmAgainstAbuse #AbuseKills #NoOneDeservesIt #WeCanStopIt.”

Vicky disclosed in a recent interview with Delay that her parent’s marriage hit the rocks because her father was always beating her mom.

“I don’t want to say this but I will because father has regretted his actions and has asked for forgiveness. I also want this to serve a deterrent to people out there. My mother left my father because, my father used to beat her.

“This was something that happened most of the times in my presence. Constantly, there were misunderstandings, the long and short of all is that, I grew up in an abusive home,” she said.
