Samuel Eto’o Fils is easily one of the best players this continent has ever produced, and there is a decent argument to be made for him being the greatest African player of all time.

After a stellar career having represented Barcelona, Inter Milan, and several other clubs and scoring wherever he went, the 34 year old joined Turkish club Antalyaspor in June.

After the club sacked coach Yusuf Simsek for failing to impress, they have decided to hand over the reins of the club temporarily to the player. He has been given a three game probation period to show what he can do with the squad, whilst officials decide what to do next.

Eto’o, who has no managerial experience, would be cushioned into his role by Mehmet Ugurlu, Antalyaspor’s technical director.

The Cameroonian won four African Player of the year awards during his time at the top of his game, holding the record as the all time top scorer at the Cup of Nations. He is to date the only player to win continental trebles with two clubs, doing that back to back in 2009 and 2010 with Barcelona and Internazionale respectively.
