Trying to determine how popular a personality is in this day and age of social media means, looking at their number of followers on social media.
Although that can be tricky due to celebrities sometimes having fake accounts following them, it is the best metric to look at such things.
Graphic Showbiz conducted their very own survey by looking at the number of followers our local celebrities have to determine the most popular one, and John Dumelo emerged on top. The methodology was to total their number of followers on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and then using a points based system, calculate a final aggregate score for each.
The social networks were assigned scored based on the ‘functional roles of each platform’. Twitter was adjudges as most important, thus a celebrities’ number of followers on the platform contributed 40% to their total; Facebook 35% and Instagram 25%.
John Dumelo’s aggregate score, based on followers on all three platforms scored according to the criteria, boiled down to over 1.2m followers. Yvonne Nelson was second on 1.1m, whilst Jackie Appiah placed third, at over 700,000.
