Real Madrid sacking a coach in no news, but their latest appointment as coach is pretty big news.
Zinedine Yazid Zidane, the French football legend with Algreian roots, who finished his career in Madrid and has been working behind the scenes since, has finally been handed the reins as head coach of the side.
His appointment was made official after Spaniard Rafael Benitez was shown the door following a poor spell in charge, culminating in a 2-2 draw over the weekend with Valencia.
Zidane has little prior coaching experience, with one spell in charge of Real Madrid’s B-Team, whilst also working closely with Carlo Ancelotti during his spell in charge. But his football career and his legendary status lends him the credibility that might make him a success.
“I am going to put my heart and soul into this job so that everything works out well.” The 43 year old said of his appointment.
“I want to do my very best to ensure that this club at the end of the season will have a trophy.
“It is an important day for me, it’s an emotional day, even more emotional than the day I signed as a player for the club.
“I will be working hard with all the players and I think it will go well. I will put all the heart I have into this job for the club. Thank you very much.”
