Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman, the notorious Mexican drug kinpin, apparently wanted to merge his two loves, football and entrepreneurship- into one huge investment in the English Premier League.
According to Spanish newspaper Sport, the two time jail breaker was interested in buying English Premier League club Chelsea, currently owned by the Russian billionaire Roman Abramovic. The newspaper quoted law enforcement sources for their claim.
El Chapo is estimated to be worth over a $1bn, mostly from his trafficking in the illicit drug trade. However, considering he is unlikely to be running any clubs from his jail cell, this deal surely would never come on.
Hilarious. Chelsea fans should consider what it says about their club that a notorious drug dealer wanted to purchase it.
