The Screen Actors Guild did what the Oscars would not do, having a ceremony that was about more than just white people.
One of the biggest winners on the night was Idris Elba, who picked up awards for his roles in both the movie ‘Beasts of No Nation’ and the television series ‘Luther’; whilst Leonardo DiCaprio alerted the Oscars that this should finally be his year, winning the ‘Best Actor in a Leading Role’ for his extraordinary performance in ‘Revenant’.
The documentary ‘Spotlight”’, detailing the Boston Globe’s investigations into child molestation in the Catholic Church, won the ‘Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble Cast in a Motion Picture’ award, with ‘Downton Abbey’ winning the corresponding award in television.
Other winners on the night who would be watching the Oscars from home include Uzo Aduba and Viola Davis. Of course, Game of Thrones would not watch an award ceremony roll by without having a say, winning the ‘Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Television Series’ award.
