Public Transport Drivers To Embark On Strike Next Week To Protest Newly Implemented Exorbitant Insurance Premiums

Public transport operators in the country, including the Ghana Private Roads Transport Union (GPRTU) and the Ghana Roads Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC), have announced their intention to embark on a nationwide strike from next week.
The strike, slated for February 8, is to protest a 300% increase in motor insurance premiums.
The government and the Ghana Insurance Association agreed to the increase last year, and drivers have been kicking against it since. But with the move to start implementing it, phase one of which has already began- the drivers are feeling the pinch and are pushing for a reduction in the rate.
At a press conference in Accra Tuesday to announce the news, the drivers say they are ready to pay a revised policy of at most 250%, and that anything else would be rejected.
How does anyone justify a 300% increase in anything? What the hell is the country going through at this moment?
