Creed, Beasts Of No Nation, Straight Outta Compton + More Winners From The 2016 NAACP Image Awards

Michael B. Jordan won the night's top acting award
Michael B. Jordan won the night’s top acting award

The National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People (NAACP) held its 47th awards night at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Los Angeles, to honour the best efforts of coloured people in the year in film, music, books, and television.
With the entire controversy of the Oscars failing to recognise the efforts of coloured people in their nominations list, it was a great opportunity to showcase the best of the best that was snubbed by the Motion Picture Academy.
‘Straight Outta Compton’ picked up the top award in cinema, picking up the ‘Outstanding Motion Picture’ Award. Netflix’s ‘Beasts of No Nation’ won the ‘Outstanding Independent Motion Picture’ Award, after losing out to Compton in the main category. Michael B. Jordan’s performance in the Rocky’s sequel ‘Creed’ earned him the ‘Outstanding Actor In A Motion Picture’, beating out the competition in a category that also contained Ghanaian prodigy Abraham Attah.
Several other actors and shows won awards, including ‘Empire’, Taraji P. Henson, and Don Cheadle.
