2. Do your homework before big purchases
Have you ever helped a frugal person to make some purchase? I can tell you if you have not: do not help them. It is supremely exasperating! They are meticulous about what they want in respect of specifications and the accompanying price. Especially the latter.
They will travel markets just to be sure they are not being taken for fools. And this always turns out to be the best option. Regardless of the sweat that pours from all the walking (did you think someone who wants to save be rich will waste fuel?).
They do all the enquiries and price comparison over some time before they finally make the purchase. They also consider paying attention to warranties. Sometimes the quality of the item depends on the type (length) of the warranty.
