Ghanaians were shocked when news broke in the early hours of Tuesday, February 9 2016; that a sitting Member of Parliament had been murdered in his own home.
J.B Danquah-Adu was the NPP Member of Parliament for the Abuakwa North constituency in the Eastern Region, and was stabbed to death by unknown assailants at his residence in Shiashie in Accra.
President Mahama, like most of the country, reacted with sorrow to the news of the 51 year old death. In a post on his twitter page, the President said the news left him with ‘shock’, and he expressed his condolences to the deceased legislator’s family.

First elected to Parliament in 2004, Mr Danquah-Adu survived a similar attack on his person in 2010, when he sustained injuries from an attack by three assailants. His then girlfriend was accused of masterminding that attack, although what link exists between the two incidents is merely circumstantial at this point.
Five people have been arrested in connection with the murder.
The late MP was the grandson of founding father of Ghana and a member of the big six, J.B Danquah. He is survived by a wife and two children.
