Nike To Drop Their Sponsorship Of Manny Pacquiao Due To His Anti-Gay Comments

Manny Pacquiao recently generated outrage when he said gay people are worse than animals during a campaign event in his country, The Philippines.
Of course, that ignorant sound bite played very well in the conservative, 80% Catholic country that he comes from- but in the rest of civilisation, homophobia just doesn’t play well.
According to TMZ, sportswear giants Nike are considering dropping their endorsement deal with the boxing stalwart due to the comments he passed, which almost certainly insulted the very identities of a huge swath of Nike’s customers.
According to the site, the move has not been made official yet, although the decision has almost certainly already been made. Perhaps as a precursor, all clothes featuring the boxer have been taken down from Nike’s online store.
Running for a senate seat in his native Philippines, the legendary boxer revealed stunningly ignorant, but perhaps popular views, about gay people in a television interview.
“It’s common sense. Do you see animals mating with the same s*x?
“Animals are better because they can distinguish male from female,” Pacquiao told local broadcaster TV5.
“If men mate with men and women mate with women they are worse than animals.”
He later apologised, although still saying he stands by his beliefs.
