Arrested British Drug Lord David McDermott Was Married To The Daughter Of The Governor Of The Bank Of Ghana

David McDermott, the UK national arrested Friday in Accra on drug related charges, was living the high life in Ghana before his arrest.
According to Mirror UK, McDermott was married to the daughter of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Ramona Wampah, and lived with her and their little baby in Burma Hills.
A source close to the investigation told the tabloid that ‘McDermott was living the high life – like an African king’. It raises serious questions about how a British fugitive was able to ingratiate himself into the lives of one of the country’s most high profile personalities; and what, if anything, the family knew about his past.

“David had settled well into life in Ghana,” the source told the Mirror.
“He had what seemed to be an idyllic life, in a plush estate, having married into the Wampah family, in essence living like an African king.
“He and Ramona lived under the radar with their toddler but there are now serious questions as to how much information the family knew about his background.
“He plans to fight his case tooth and nail and has hired a set of lawyers to appeal his extradition.
“If he can avoid coming back to the UK, he absolutely will do it, and he’s got the money and connections to fight it.”

David McDermott, 42, was arrested in Accra in a joint operation involving Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA) and the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).
He is being processed for extradition next week, but it seems like he is determined to fight it.
He is one of several individuals suspected to be connected to a 2013 drug seizure by British authorities, members of a Liverpool based gang attempting to smuggle cocaine worth £71m into Britain. The drugs were seized at Tilbury docks nearly three years ago, hidden in a container of frozen Argentinean beef.
McDermott has since been wanted in connection with that drug bust, and also for another charge of conspiracy to commit blackmail.
Dr Henry Kofi Wampah has been governor of the Bank of Ghana since 2012.
