Pathetically, the arguments by most Ghanaians against homosexuals is pretty sad—they lack any basic intellect and mostly full of ignorance.
Despite over 1500 animal species known to engage in same sex, you would often hear the Ghanaian as part of an argument against homosexuality, saying, “animals even known better”—obviously, ignorant of the mentioned fact.
Now, struggling Ghanaian musician-IWAN is looking for a bit of media attention and has therefore jumped onto the conversation surrounding homosexuality—and as we’ve always seen, his arguments are as lame as his music.
The discussions would have been rich if those seeking to make a case against same sex knew what they were talking about—or erected their arguments on the back of intellect and facts.
According to IWAN, if Gays are making claims to human rights, then thieves will also make claims to human rights.
Here, IWAN is ignorant of the fact that, a thief has almost all his human rights intact, except those he forfeits by virtue of his punishment.
So a thief has a right to life, right to education (in most jurisdiction), right to health, right to communication, right to marriage (in some jurisdiction), right to have conjugal visits (in some jurisdiction) and many more. What a thief mostly forfeits is his right to freedom of movement, imposed by prison sentence for his crime.
It’s therefore difficult to reconcile IWAN’s ignorant claim that a thief has somewhat gotten no human rights and granting gays a specific human right will mean thieves would also ask for human rights too.
Clearly, IWAN knows nothing about Human Rights but wants to talk about it. This is where the conversation resides; and that’s really absurd.
No body is asking another not to erect an argument, but at least, do so with facts and intellect—not the gross ignorance being rampantly paraded.
