Evangelist Lord Kenya has spoken on the issue of who the best rapper in Ghana is, and his opinion is set to rankle fans of the rapper generally considered the top in the country ‘Mr One Time for your Mind’.
Kenya said that Sarkodie has not done enough in his career to be described as the best, noting that he doesn’t even have enough albums to his name yet to merit that title.
Kenya, a veteran hiplife star himself in another life, said on Starr Fm Wednesday that the ‘Original’ rapper brags too much despite doing very little.
“You don’t become the best rapper in one year, it’s for decades, before we say someone’s is the best” he told Bola Ray.
“Do you know how many years he has to work for it?.. to be honest how many albums does he [Sarkodie] have?” he wondered.
“I’m asking them to stop bragging…he hasn’t arrived yet and has to take his time.
“Okyeame Kwame is the best because he knows what he is doing, he’s the one I used to rap with, and he’s like a father.”
Sarkodie has in recent years indeed clamoured his way to the top of the industry in Ghana, but Lord Kenya’s beef seems to be that he hasn’t demonstrated the staying power to claim the title of the best yet.
Sarkodie himself totally disagrees, saying in a recent interview after performing at London’s O2 Arena that he would remain at the top for a long time.
Lord Kenya, who touched on several topics in his chat with Bola, also talked about the ‘confused’ pstor, Ofori Amponsah.
“Ofori Amponsah is confused,” he said.
“Everyone who is called to do the work of God has an assignment. I’m an evangelist. Who was he called to be and whatever he said to be let him do that. If he is not then I am disappointed in him.
“How can a prophet go back in his own way and the next time you are at Kwahu?
“Our God is faithful. We have been praying for him.” he concluded.
