Beyonce released a new album out of nowhere over the weekend, ‘Lemonade’, which got everyone talking again about the divorce rumours surrounding her marriage that never goes away.
The 12 track album, which she released in just as surprising a fashion as her last album, streamed on HBO, and was later made exclusively available on Tidal- the streaming service owned by her husband Jay-Z.
‘Lemonade’ has lit up the discussion around the couple’s marriage again, with several nods towards a cheating partner sprinkled throughout its twelve tracks.
In Don’t Hurt Yourself, which features Jack White from the White Stripes, she sings:
Uh, this is your final warning. You know I give you life
If you try this sh*t again. You gon lose your wife
The album ends on a reconciliatory note, where she is seen hugging Jay-Z. But the volume of cheating allusions seems to point to something deeper; there is no smoke without fire, as they say- and Solange’s elevator fight still speaks volumes.
Here are a cross-section of cheating inspired lyrics from ‘Lemonade’
Pray You Catch Me
You can taste the dishonesty / It’s on your breath as you pass it off so cavalier.
Can’t you see there’s no other man above you / What a wicked way to treat the girl that loves you.
Looking at my watch, he shoulda been home / Today I regret the night I put that ring on / He always got them f*cking excuses.
He only want me when I’m not on there / He better call Becky with the good hair.
I’ve always been committed, I’ve been focused / I always paid attention, been devoted, tell me what did I do wrong?
Ten times out of nine, I know you’re lying / But nine times outta ten, I know you’re trying.
Are you aware you’re my lifeline, are you trying to kill me? / If I wasn’t me, would you still feel me? / Like on my worst day? Or am I not thirsty enough?
Found the truth beneath your lies / And true love never has to hide.
