Filipino Terrorist Group Targets Boxer Manny Pacquiao For Abduction

Floyd Mayweather Jr. v Manny Pacquiao - News Conference
Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao has ratcheted up the level of his personal security after a terrorism plot against him was uncovered by Filipino intelligence.
The country’s President revealed on Wednesday that the militant Islamist group Abu Sayyaf, who gained notoriety after beheading a Canadian national mere days ago, had nefarious plans targeted at the 37 year old.
President Benigno Aquino III said actionable intel gathered indicated that he and his family had been targeted, as well as the country’s most famous pugilist.
“They allegedly even hatched plots to kidnap Manny Pacquiao or one of his children, as well as my sister Kris or one of her children, with the plan to use them in bargaining for the release of their cohorts,” The President said, referring to his younger sister, who is a famous actress.
“Threats against my own life have been investigated,” he added.
Pacquiao on Thursday responded to the alleged threats by noting he has beefed up his own security.
“I was alarmed when he (The President) announced the Abu Sayyaf wanted to kidnap me. I’m surprised because all Filipinos are my friends. I love them, especially the Muslims.
“We asked for security, protection for my kids, my family to make sure they are safe.” He added.
Pacquiao is a national icon in the country, the only eight weight world champion in history, and once the top pound for pound boxer in the world. He is also a local congressman, and is known for his strong Christian views.
