Rapper 50 Cent has donated $100,000 to an autism foundation, ‘Autism Speaks’, as part of efforts to show his commitment to the cause of disabled Americans, after his recent insensitive actions brought him some negative press.
The rapper released a video of him making fun of an airport worker, who actually suffers from autism, although it was unclear if Fiddy knew that at the time.
In the video mocking Andrew Farrell, 50 said the 19 year old, who works as a janitor at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport, seemed high, and laughed that this new generation is crazy.
After catching flak for the insensitive action, he took down the video and apologised to Farrell’s family. He acquiesced to a demand for him to make a donation of $10,000 to an autism foundation to show his remorse- although he sprang for $100,000 instead- deposited into the coffers of ‘Autism Speaks’.
“I want to turn this misunderstanding into an understanding. There are people that are ignored, mistreated and neglected with disabilities that need our support.” 50, who these days makes the new for his bankruptcy case more than anything else, said.
“Today, I have made a donation of $100,000 to this worthy cause through Autism Speaks.
“I am calling on my fellow musicians, actors, entertainers and all others who may not have fully considered this cause to join together to help in any way they can.” he added.
