‘The Cursed Ones’ Wins Award At Finnish Film Festival

Nana Obiri Yeboah’s second feature film ‘The Cursed Ones’, which starred Ama K. Abebrese- has picked up another award for its challenging story.
The movie was awarded the Jury Award for “Human Rights and Social Commentary” at the Helsinki African Film Festival (HAFF), which is currently ongoing in the Finish capital.
The movie, which cleaned house at the recent Ghana Movie Awards, has won several other awards in its short run, including at the 2016 Canada International Film Festival  for Foreign Feature Film.
With its story revolving around a girl in a village who was branded a witch, ‘The Cursed Ones’ attacks and exposes some of the entrenched societal prejudices developed on the back of our grand obsession with superstition. (Read our review here)
‘The Cursed Ones’ was written by Maximilian Claussen, directed by Nana Obiri Yeboah, and starred, amongst others;  Oris Erhuero, Jimmy Jean-Lewis, Fred Amugi, Ophelia Dzidzornu, David Dontoh, as well as Ama K.
