The 2004 box office blockbuster and the wet dream of Christians everywhere, Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ, is set to get a sequel soon enough.
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that the sequel to the 2004 picture is already being planned, with the script under development.
‘Braveheart’ screenwriter Randall Wallace, who worked on the upcoming production ‘Hacksaw Ridge’ with Gibson, told the publication that they hit on the idea whist working on the latter.
The story for the sequel is set to focus on the resurrection of Christ, which, much like the crucifixion, is one of the most significant parts of the religion.
“I always wanted to tell this story,” Walace said.
“The Passion is the beginning and there’s a lot more story to tell.”
The Passion, which starred Jim Caviezel as the Christ, is infamous for being the most graphic depiction of the fate of Christ ever made, with its violence going far above and beyond the macabre. It’s portrayal of the Jewish people has also been described as anti-Semitic.
It still became the highest grossing Independent movie of all time, raking in $612m on a budget of $30m.
