They say in the name of love people would do the unthinkable. I am beginning to believe that once you fall in love your brain abruptly stops reasoning. Why else would a 14 year old girl attempt to kill herself because her single mother, who is scrapping the surface of this earth to take care of her, warned her to stay away from her boyfriend?
Well, if Romeo and Juliet died in the name of love, why should hers be any different? My question is did she not sit to think that the moment she dies her boyfriend would find himself another lover? But then again, what could be expected from an immature little girl.
The fourth child of one Maame Ampomaa is reportedly fighting tooth and nail with death at Nweneso Number One in the Ashanti Region, after attempting suicide over her mum’s attempts to get her to stop seeing her ‘boyfriend’.
The mother narrated to Class News that she realized her daughter had found herself a boyfriend about a week ago, and as a single mother,   did what every mother would have done- adviced her to stay away from the said lover, pointing out she would have to stay home if pregnancy strikes.
“About a week ago, I noticed that she had gotten herself a boyfriend. I am a widow and a single mother who toils to take care of her, so, I told her that she would stop schooling and stay home if she continued the relationship.” She told the Radio station.
“I woke up this morning and could not find her. I went to her room only to find her almost dying after consuming a poisonous substance. I rushed her to a nearby hospital and [I am] praying that she gets well soon.” She added.
“I was only looking out for her own good so that with all the monies spent on her education, she does not get pregnant. She may end up not getting a good man to marry, that is why I also asked her to stay away from this relationship,”
Inexplicabbly, a mother’s humble plea necessitated a suicide attempt from the very child she is toiling for. The widow said she went to her child’s room this morning only to find the almost lifeless body of her daughter.
The girl, who was reported to be in a critical condition,  is now stable- though she cannot eat and drink as it stands now.
And to think that the man who is behind all these haplessness is a 34-year old man who operates a motorbike, the one we call “okada” informally. Not that occupation and age has anything to do with love and relationship but this case is ridiculous. The girl is not even legal.
