Volta Region Currently Tops 'Wee' Usage and Cultivation in Ghana—Narcotics Control Board

According to Ghana’s Narcotics Control Board, the Volta Region currently leads in the consumption and cultivation of weed, a banned substance in the West African country.
The Narcotics Control Board says the youth of Volta Region are in large numbers into the farming of ganja, and that has contributed to the region toping the weed league in Ghana.
Mr Jeremiah Joel Ghartey of the NACOB Educational Unit who told 3FM’s Community Connect that “they are stemming the tide by adopting new strategies including educating people on the dangers involved in engaging in drug use and trafficking.”
Mr Ghartey added; “in previous times we were skewed towards making arrests all over the place. But now what we are doing is to engage in massive education to sensitize people especially the youth to desist from the practice.”
Joel Ghartey made the above comments while speaking ahead of the celebration of World Drug Day which falls on June 26.
